Bathroom Remodel: Warm up Your Bathroom
Do you know the shock of a freezing cold bathroom floor during the winter months? With the recent cold snap, our team was thinking about ways to warm up your bathroom during winter.Â
One idea we like – underfloor heating. But what is underfloor heating and how does it work?
Ways to Warm up Your Bathroom
Underfloor heating is a climate control system that keeps your floors from feeling, well, like a frozen tundra.Â
The heating system is located just under the floor and uses either hot water or electric heating elements to keep bathroom floors nice and toasty.
Hydronic Underfloor Heating
A hydronic system uses pipes carrying hot water and antifreeze that are layered under the floor. The pipes run in a closed circuit with your home’s water heater, allowing the water to be reheated and recycled through the system.Â
If you are planning to heat multiple floors in the house, a hydronic system is the best choice as they are most efficient. If your home uses a traditional water heater, a hydronic system is also a logical choice, as it is easy to divert some hot water from the tank to the floor heating system.
Electric Underfloor Heating
If you want one or two rooms heated mainly for comfort, invest in an electric heating system. Instead of pipes, heating mats or electric cables are installed beneath the floors. The system can run on a timer, so you can have the floors warmed up when you are getting ready in the morning, but keep them turned off in the middle of the day when nobody is home.Â
