Countertops: Granite vs. Quartz

Granite vs quartz. Choosing the right kitchen or bathroom countertops can be a tedious decision. In today’s market, there are several options to choose from. Granite and Quartz are among the top favorites. We will examine a few important categories to help you make the best choice for you and your home.

Compare Granite Vs Quartz

Quartz: Some quartz countertops are made from quarried slabs of the natural stone. However, engineered Quartz is created from a process that mixes natural quartz with polymer resins.

Granite: Granite countertops are sheets of 100% natural pure granite that are made up of interlocking crystals, usually being feldspar and quartz. The granite is mined from quarries all over the world, resized and finished.

Countertop Durability

Overall, Quartz is more durable than Granite. Granite, in nature, is more porous. Therefore, if a spill is left sitting, staining could occur.  The only downfall to quartz is that it can be damaged by excessive heat. We recommend using heating pads at all times.

Maintenance

Remember, Granite can stain. The countertops should be cleaned daily with soap and water. To ensure the granite lasts, we recommend resealing once a year. Quartz is much easier to maintain. Due to the solid surface, there is no need to have the countertops resealed. Just make sure to clean any spills.

Price

Quartz is cheaper than granite. If you have a very large kitchen with lots of counter space, the cost can add up very quickly. With quartz, you will not have to compromise the quality and appearance for a lower price.

Appearance

Granite has a limitless selection when it comes to color and pattern. No two granite countertops will ever be the same. However, it is trickier and harder to customize the design of certain kitchens due to the color scheme. Quartz, on the other hand, has gained lots of popularity for appearance. The selection process is simpler as you do not have to search and search for the right piece.
